Cities have a major responsibility in the face of climate change, being responsible for over 70% of greenhouse gas emissions.
Brussels wants to reinforce its role as a "city that breathes" by responding to the concerns of its citizens. This means adopting a sustainable approach, with the creation of a continuous green artery, new green spaces and the greening of existing public spaces.
The aim is to improve quality of life, reduce the risks of flooding and excessive heat, and cut energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by promoting renewable energies.
The city is also focusing on the health of its residents by improving air quality and combatting noise pollution in public spaces and residential areas.
