A city that is local

The City of Brussels is experiencing continuous demographic growth, and according to IBSA forecasts, this increase will continue beyond 2030, particularly among young children, older children, young people and senior citizens.

Despite this trend, the City is striving to be a local or nearby city, where all residents have access to the services and infrastructure that meet their essential needs. This ambition is based in particular on the 10-minute city concept, which aims to offer citizens the possibility of finding the facilities, services and shops they need for their daily lives all within a 10-minute walk.

A nearby city is characterised by a local supply of nurseries, schools and facilities for young people and senior citizens. Public spaces are designed with the daily needs of residents in mind, and everyone has access to local sports and cultural facilities. Furthermore, the range of local health care facilities is sufficiently large, and available and accessible to all.
