Mission

Using technology and innovation to improve the quality of life of citizens and businesses in the City of Brussels, while at the same time minimising the environmental footprint of cities is what a Smart City is all about.
How? Through seven general ambitions that reflect our strategy and help the City rise to its main long-term challenges.

More details can be found in the Smart City Plan of the City of Brussels.

The administration of the City of Brussels is facing a number of challenges in terms of its internal functioning and organisation, which must also be addressed by the Smart City strategy in order to ensure the success of the projects envisaged. Five pillars have been identified to meet these challenges and create a solid foundation for the Smart City.
In order to guarantee a high quality of life for the people of Brussels and to create a sustainable city, the City of Brussels has developed a Smart City strategy based on seven fields of action. These fields of action cover the main challenges facing the City of Brussels in the coming years.
A smart sustainable city is an innovative city that uses information and communication technologies and other means to improve quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social and environmental aspects
