CityFab1, a FabLab Dedicated to Digital Manufacturing

Fablab

The City of Brussels, in collaboration with its IT service provider, GIAL, and CityDev, has opened a new FabLab (short for “Fabrication Laboratory”). A FabLab is a manufacturing workshop where anyone (artist, designer, engineer, developer, DIY enthusiast, student, citizen, etc.), regardless of their level of experience, can come and experiment, learn or make any type of object (art or design object, interactive object, technical object, prototype, etc.). The members of a FabLab form a community: they help each other, exchange know-how and build knowledge together through open collaboration processes that are part of the global FabLab network. A place of innovation and sharing such as this enables people to get a better grip on technology, for example by organising introductory sessions on how to self-build 3D printers, training in 3D modelling software or learning how to build a computer.

This FabLab, called CityFab1, is a fantastic space for creativity and sharing digital knowledge and practices in a world that is currently going through a digital revolution, also known as the "Fourth Industrial Revolution". This revolution is set to profoundly transform the economy. Investing in people - through lifelong learning, amongst other things - is one of the key elements in rising to the many challenges of the 21st century.
CityFab1 is the fruit of a partnership between Gial (City of Brussels) and CityDev (Brussels Capital Region) and is located at Brussels Greenbizz, an incubator for companies and start-ups focused on the green, sustainable or environment-related economy.
