Climate Plan of the City of Brussels
The City of Brussels has developed a Climate Plan. The aim of the plan is to be carbon neutral by 2050 and adapt the city to climate change.
The issue of global warming and its many harmful consequences in every corner of the globe are at the heart of the concerns of citizens mobilized by this cause during gigantic demonstrations, including in the streets of Brussels. The City of Brussels wants to rise to the climate challenge. This is the reason for this new Climate Plan for the City of Brussels. This plan is broken down into around a hundred objectives and nearly 400 actions that the City aims to carry out in themes such as water, energy, waste, biodiversity, mobility, food, etc.

This Climate Plan is a compass for the multiple policies articulated within it. The objectives are clear and firm: reduce our emissions by 55% in the short term and achieve carbon neutrality in the medium term. Climate calls for projects will continue to finance the many initiatives of citizens, associations and businesses in our region. The efforts of everyone will be at the center of the success of this Climate Plan. Whether it is floods or heatwaves, everyone must commit to adapting in order to limit the impact of extreme weather events on our daily lives. Cities produce CO2 but are also the source of many solutions. These solutions will be implemented quickly because the objectives set for 2030 and 2050 are tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
In 2021 and 2022, a broad participatory process has been set up to identify citizens' concerns and recommendations on the climate policy in Brussels. The City of Brussels created a moment of dialogue allowing the actors of its territory to take a strategic place in this process.
The Local Climate Assembly will be responsible for steering and monitoring the territory's climate objectives. It will also ensure that the dynamics are amplified by developing the action plan and by federating a maximum number of actors around the climate objectives.
