Espace Games.brussels: a space dedicated to video game creators

By supporting the development of the video game creation sector, the City of Brussels intends to promote its many local talents and position itself as an ideal breeding ground for international exposure. A very first space specially dedicated to the creators of video games, the games.brussels Space, was officially launched on the 30th of March at the Dansaert business center, laying the foundations for a new favorite site for this rising industry.

A booming market
The video game industry has far exceeded cinema and music in terms of turnover. In Belgium, the sector is growing with a turnover of 88 million euros in 2021. The growth prospects, which are particularly significant for the capital of Europe, also match the employment prospects which leads, in the long term, to trainings. This is why the City of Brussels has decided to meet the needs of the sector through financial support and the provision of a space that allows the community to unite.

"This project, at the crossroads of three of my skills as an alderman, represents an outcome: that of supporting a passionate sector, with multiple perspectives, at the same time at the social, economic and cultural level. Brussels has all the assets to become the capital of video games in Belgium, which is already demonstrated by the immense success of games.brussels Space”, rejoices Fabian Maingain, Alderman for Economic Affairs, Employment, Smart City and Administrative Simplification of the City of Brussels.

Ever-increasing ambitions

Open since February, the space dedicated to video game creators has already revised its objectives upwards, having exceeded its annual forecast in one month with the presence of 21 employees, including five job creations. “The virtuous circle of teamwork bears particular fruit in our niche sector, the very foundations of which lie in the collaborative spirit. At games.brussels Space, all the companies help each other, creating a particularly favorable climate and creative emulation,” add Sébastien Letouze and Guillaume Bouckaert of the games.brussels association.
