Winners of the Smart City 2024 call for projects: Data-Driven Smart City
Through the seventh edition of its “Smart City” call for projects, with the theme of Data Driven Smart City, the City of Brussels aimed to support particularly innovative initiatives on its territory.
In addition to financial support of €80,000 in total, the winners also benefit from communication support offered by the City of Brussels.
The jury selected 2 varied winning projects that provide a response to the City's technological, resilience and sustainability challenges:
Buildwind - BrusAir: An online tool for rapid and accurate assessment of air quality in Brussels:
The BrusAir project aims to create a predictive model of air quality in a part of the City of Brussels. The BrusAir software will be based on simulations of wind flow in the city, pollutant transport and diffusion models and artificial intelligence techniques (machine learning) that will enable the software to learn from the results of 3D simulations and then be able to predict local pollutant concentration values in real time. The model will also be able to predict a future situation, based for example on the weather forecast for the following days. BrusAir will be based on highly detailed simulations obtained using digital fluid mechanics, which sets it apart from existing models. It will help to better visualize the air quality in the city but also to help in making political decisions.
Autonomia - BruCity.AccessAll.be :
Platform offering a map of accessible buildings (for people with disabilities) in the City of Brussels and a journey planning tool. The project also encourages civic participation by allowing users to rate places. Awareness campaigns and QR codes are planned to make it easier to share information about accessible buildings and to view the audit carried out on them. Distinctive pictograms will also be used to identify the different types of building on the map, promoting a better understanding of urban accessibility.
